Sheriff OSullivan Instills Values On and Off the Field
The Chesapeake Sheriff's Office Youth Football Camp came together in its fifth annual event hosting over 200 local boys and girls with free participation. High school and middle school football coaches from all over the area volunteer their time each year to work with the children, encouraging active lifestyles while teaching football fundamentals as well as important values for off the field. It has always been Chesapeake Sheriff Jim O'Sullivan's dream to help local children, and he is thankful he is able to make that happen in his position. The youth football camp is just one of many operations Sheriff O'Sullivan has in place in the community through his Children Today Leaders Tomorrow program.
We focus on values, such as personal responsibility, as much as if not more than the fundamentals of football. We work with them to improve their football skills inside the lines while teaching them leadership skills to make good decisions outside the lines.
Coaches make sure the youth understand the importance of warming up and proper conditioning before beginning the day's activities
More than 200 kids came out for the football camp, along with the many local head and assistant coaches donating their time to the cause
The young athletes break up into position-specific workouts, like this drill focused on footwork to help future linebackers
Working with mini cornerbacks, coaches teach the importance of catching... and making those much-needed picks!
